Richard Peña’s new album “Synergy”
Puerto Rican jazz guitarist Richard Peña has just released his latest album “Synergy”, in which the award winning artist pays homage to his different mentors, friends and loved ones throughout 10 remarkable songs imbued with clever melodic phrasing and dynamic arrangements full of brio and vitality that are meant to move the listeners, giving them an honest and exciting sonic experience.
As one of the leading new-generation jazz musicians of Puerto Rico, Richard’s musical style intricately blends the traditional sounds of Latin music, the modern colors of post-bop and fusion jazz through the soothing warm sound of his guitar. In Synergy, however, there’s more to the music than meets the eye. Richard states that “The music in this album is my way of paying homage to those who have, in one way or another, helped me become a greater version of myself, be it as a musician or a human being. Each song tells a tale about who these mentors, friends and loved ones are and how my interactions with them have transformed me. Synergy, meaning the interaction of two or more things to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects, is something I think we should all experience more often in our life. I believe that the synergy between people, cultures, beliefs and social groups should be a positive one, looking to better humanity as a whole rather than to act as a deterrent of progress and equality.”
